Savannah Art Association

  In the early 70s, Barbara took oil painting classes from German portrait artist, Sigurd Schmidt.  He
stressed to his students that no amount of paint could cover up a bad drawing and his students were
not allowed to pick up a brush in his class until he was satisfied that they could produce a decent
drawing.  Barbara has taken many art classes since, in Huntsville, Alabama; Boca Raton, Florida;
West Palm Beach, Florida; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Savannah, Georgia; but she says she always
felt that Mr. Schmidt had the most influence on her art.

  Though most of her work had been in oils, she fell in love with watercolor in 1998 and it has been
her passion ever since.  Barbara says she loves the way the colors intermingle and can be very
subdued or fantastically bright, and she enjoys using these colors in portraits of pets and people as
well as floral and other paintings.  In 2003, Barbara began painting in acrylics and is now also
enjoying exploring that exciting medium.

  Barbara has been a member of the Savannah Art Association since March 2001 and shows her work
in
Studio 5 SOUTH located in City Market’s Franklin Ward South building.  Her paintings are in private
homes and businesses across the United States and abroad.
