| Betsy Haun is a self-taught artist. She loves the challenges that watercolors present. She also works in pencil and pen & ink. She has recently rediscovered oils, after not painting with them since high school. Her subjects include architecture, flora, boats, marinas, seascapes and landscapes. One of her mentors, her architect/artist father, gave her support, encouragement and inspiration. Betsy has loved watercolors since high school, but it was not until 1995 that her passion came to life. Inspired by seeing the paintings of a prominent doctor, Betsy decided, “to drop her inhibitions and follow her dream”. Painting out of her home and wanting to learn more about her own style, she decided to join the Savannah Art Association. In September of 1999, she won a Best of Show Award. This gave her the boost she needed for her next move. In November of that year, Betsy teamed up with two other City Market artists to open a studio/gallery. In 2001, she won an honorable mention award. November 2002 found Betsy's work in the Four Visions show with Sharon Dobbs, Carrie Kellogg, and Andrea Stark. Four Visions Revisited was on display in December 2005 in the Lobby Gallery on City Market. Over the years, Betsy has done numerous commissions including house portraits, churches, and a painting of a family crest. Betsy served seven years on the Savannah Art Association Board, filling positions from Treasurer to Chairman of The Board. She is currently a member of both the Savannah Art Association and the Tybee Arts Association. Betsy has taught for Michaels, Savannah Art Association, Landings Art Association, Tybee Art Association, Host South and the Savannah Christian Art Camp. She gives private and group drawing and painting lessons. She was an art counselor for MBL (Mission for Biblical Literacy) in orphanages in the area of Smolensk Russia. Her enthusiasm and her love for art are passed on to her students. Her desire to learn new skills and techniques is inspiring. Contact Betsy to purchase paintings or prints or to commission Building Portraits. Building Portraits include churches, houses, buildings, boats, etc. Portraits start at $200.
